ADAPT protocol now called MS Live Mesh
Well I guess it is nice to see that the guys over at Microsoft read my blog.
It seems that the past couple of months they have created a new protocol that allows you to share files and programs over the internet, I called it the ADAPT protocol (second post here on ADAPT)… they call it Live Mesh.
Let us do a comparison.
|
|
ADAPT | Live Mesh |
| Access Anywhere | Yup | Yup |
| SVN Sync | Uses SVN to sync all files to one current file, this is done on a “main computer” with other computers. not on MS servers | Syncs all files to one current file, this is done on a online “cloud” and on other computers in the “mesh”, part of MS servers |
| SSH Access | SSH used to secure files and data transfer | MS Live ID and SSL used |
| File Sharing | Allow only certain people to see certain files all synced, allow only certain people to edit | Allow only certain people to see certain files all synced, use MS Live ID to allow certain people to edit |
| Notify | Saving the file saves on your computer with a full log of changes and svn functions for reverting back. Copies are merged and outdated just like svn, metadata for comments | Keep track of Activities, find out who has updated which files or folders, post and read comments, and check the status of your devices. |
| Programs | Access programs from remote computer to use on local computer | Access programs from remote computer to use on local computer |
| Users | Users are added in an address book-like key server with a sha1 key associated with each person. | MS Live ID |
| Cross Platform | U3 like system, Windows, Mac and Linux Client | Install program, Windows Client, Mac Client “coming soon” |
It seems to not contain any features that I didn’t mention and I don’t have many other features that it didn’t incorporate. It seems they allow 3rd party API extensions, which would have been the next logical conclusion.
My conclusion was:
It seems MS agrees.
I feel a blog is not a good representation for a lawsuit.
Oh well, best of luck to MS!
